Waseda University Successful Words – Ms. Liu
Hello everyone! I’m Sayuri, I qualified for the Graduate School of Commerce at Waseda University this summer, and I’m honored to share my experience in preparing for the exam. Next, I will introduce you my experience of the whole process of studying for the Japanese exam according to the time stages.
Write at the top
Although these sentences may sound like chicken soup, they are the most meaningful and deepest feelings I had after going through the Japanese examination process.
- Because the Japanese exams have their own time attribute, it is inevitable that you will go through a stage where your domestic students and students who are going to study in other countries such as Europe and the United States have already decided where to go and you are still at a stage of uncertainty. Remember! Psychological fluctuations are normal! But don’t be overly red-eyed, what you can do is to take one step at a time, do what you need to do well, good results are not to time before and after the high and low.
- There is no useless experience, each experience has its own significance, perhaps at the moment you can not find the value of it, but the accumulation of precipitation, will always be in the time of need to help you.
- In a foreign country, language communication is the basis of everything, no matter what level of Japanese you have reached, you should dare to open your mouth, dare to communicate, with my acquaintance with the condominium grandparents have told me over dinner, if you first take the initiative to express your willingness to open attitude, they are very happy to communicate with you. The teachers at the language school are more than willing to spend time and patience to develop your communication skills as a resource, so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity! And it’s only through practicing in everyday life that you can improve your language.
As my undergraduate was a Japanese college student, I didn’t have too much trouble with Japanese language ability, but for the cross-college business administration exam, it was really a way to get in touch with a completely unknown field of knowledge, so it was very important to make up for the disadvantage of professional knowledge by giving full play to the advantage of my language ability. My preparation cycle started from October 2021 to October 13 this year when I passed Waseda University. The battle line is really long! This long road is more than patience and practicality.
October 2021-January 2022
This stage is mainly for the study of professional knowledge, because it is a completely new field, so for the students across the examination, the first time for the understanding of the basics of professional knowledge, really important! I now review my mastery of professional knowledge, although it is a personal experience talk, but I personally really is the first time the foundation is solid learning is more solid, and indeed only on the basis of solid basic knowledge, the later preparation for the examination can be used as the focus, to further expand. And combined with the style of this year’s questions from various schools, there is a tendency to return to the basics, so it is still recommended that students must play a good foundation!
January 2022-May 2022
This stage is mainly the preparation of English exams and the writing of undergraduate thesis.
In terms of English exams, since I didn’t want to waste too much experience taking the TOEFL and the school I wanted to enroll in didn’t have a mandatory requirement for TOEFL scores, I just chose TOEIC. In this regard, I would like to remind you to pay attention to: TOEIC test in their own simulation must pinch the time to do the questions, because the amount of questions is very large, on the test coupled with nervousness is very easy to not play out the original strength.
Thesis, do not delay! Finish your thesis as soon as possible so that you can have time for the program and your major courses. However, I also hope that you can treat your thesis with care. Although I was a Japanese college student and my undergraduate thesis had little to do with business administration, my professor happened to be interested in the keywords of my thesis topic and asked questions around it, and also paid attention to the grade of the thesis, and I got an A at that time, which I think became a plus point in the interview.
May-July 2022
This was a really painful phase for me, basically all the difficult bones were concentrated here, things were tedious and complicated. The main tasks were the formalities for graduation, writing the proposal, and pre-travel preparations for entering the country.
Regarding the research proposal, I think the most difficult part is the part of finalizing the topic. A good topic should be both innovative and grounded, feasible and future-oriented. This is to be built on the basis of a large number of readings of prior literature in order to realize, although the English paper is really tough to read, but the English paper is really to gnaw down, firstly, in the future as a real seminar, the reading of the English literature is a necessary and indispensable skill, and secondly, the English article is more advanced and broader in academia, and will be relatively higher in the value of the references. Of course, Japanese and Chinese literature can be used as keywords for research.
