From Initial Unease to Gradual Familiarity: One Month of “Learning Life” for April New Students in Japan – Wu Huizhen

I am Wu Huizhen, an April student at Heiyang Japanese Language School this year. I come from Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province. After graduating from my undergraduate program, I worked in Beijing for over three years. I chose Heiyang Japanese Language School to further my studies.

Life as a student in Japan is very different from my life back home, especially since I transitioned from being a working professional to a student. This change initially made me a bit anxious. However, after coming to the language school, I made many friends from different places. The teachers are very enthusiastic and patient in class, and they strictly manage students’ attendance. I gradually adapted to this regular study routine. Although I had some basic knowledge of Japanese when I was in China, my listening and speaking skills were quite poor. Now, after being here for a month and a half, I have moved from “mute” Japanese to daring to speak, and my listening skills have improved significantly.

The teachers at the school place great importance on students’ future development. They conduct one-on-one interviews with each student, providing more targeted learning strategies and helping students better plan their future. The school also offers various scholarships to encourage outstanding students. Additionally, the school organizes some excursions every month, which not only help us relax but also allow us to meet more classmates.
